Paul S. Hannemann Award

Gabe Oberlin Receives 2025 Paul S. Hannemann Award at National Robotics Challenge

The National Robotics Challenge (NRC) is proud to announce Gabe Oberlin as the recipient of the prestigious 2025 Paul S. Hannemann Award, recognizing his outstanding contributions to STEM education and youth robotics engagement in Northwest Ohio.

Oberlin, a Horticulture Tech Prep Satellite Instructor with the Four County Career Center, serving students at Patrick Henry High School, is being honored for founding the NORTech Robotics Competition — an innovative pre-college robotics program that introduces middle and high school students to real-world engineering and technology through accessible, hands-on competition.

Hosted annually in partnership with Bowling Green State University, the NORTech Robotics Competition has grown into a major regional event under Oberlin’s leadership. It has provided students from across Northern Ohio with their first exposure to robotics design, coding, teamwork, and STEM careers — often serving as a launchpad to further involvement in the National Robotics Challenge.

“Gabe’s passion for empowering students through STEM education truly embodies the mission of the Hannemann Award,” said Tad Douce, Director of Events from the NRC. “He is cultivating not just technical skills, but curiosity, confidence, and future innovators.”

The Paul S. Hannemann Award is named after one of the NRC’s founding leaders and honors individuals who have made lasting contributions to technology education and student success through robotics. Gabe Oberlin joins a distinguished group of educators and advocates who have shaped the future of robotics learning nationwide.

The award was presented during the 2025 National Robotics Challenge in Marion, Ohio, where educators, students, and industry leaders gathered to celebrate creativity and technical excellence.
