Purple Star - Supporting Military Families

Four County Career Center Earns Purple Star School Designation for Class of 2025

According to the Ohio Department of Education, since September 11, 2001, more than 18,000 Ohio National Guard members have been deployed to serve in the global war on terrorism.  Altogether, more than 60,000 Ohioans have actively served their nation away from home.  Approximately 34,000 students in Ohio are members of military families.  Frequent moves and family separations through deployments, as well as reintegration issues, make life especially challenging.  Ohio offers a number of programs to assist military families.

The Ohio Department of Education and Workforce has once again recognized Four County Career Center as a Purple Star School, renewing its designation through the Class of 2025.

The Purple Star designation is awarded to schools that show a significant commitment to supporting students and families connected to the military. According to the Ohio Purple Star Advisory Board, the designation is based on strict criteria designed to ensure that schools provide meaningful and sustained support for military-connected youth.

Stephen D. Dackin, Director of the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce, praised Four County for meeting those standards and commended the school’s dedication to military families.

“Ohio’s military-connected youth require supports that consider their unique wellness and academic needs, especially while navigating school transitions,” Dackin said. “The Purple Star award signifies your school’s demonstrated commitment to serving these students and families.”

The Purple Star designation is valid for three years. Four County Career Center will be eligible to apply for renewal in fall 2027 for recognition in the Class of 2028.

This honor reflects Four County’s continued efforts to ensure that military-connected students feel supported, welcomed, and understood throughout their educational journey.
